Faves of TwentyEleven: The Characters

Nomes from Inkcrush is back with her Faves of 2011 meme! You guys may have seen my post months ago with the Faves of 2011 (So far), and this one is to sum up the year that was “Twenty Eleven”. You can check out the five days’ themes and their categories at Inkcrush and join in yourself!

This is late because I spent hours on this post only for WordPress to delete it. I wanted to cry. And then I couldn’t bring myself to re-type everything so I am doing it tonight.

1. favourite female main character

Lola from Lola & The Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins! I really loved her character, she was completely naive to the way of boys but so loveable and quirky. I really enjoyed the costume style clothing that she would wear. Adorable!

2. favourite male main character

Ummmm so many, but probably Chase from Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday. That scene… and girls, really if you’ve read the book you know the one! No top… six pack… *drools* Definitely my fave male in 2011. But I could probably have a top 10 list of guys I loved if I am honest.

3. best couple <3

Tricky to name just one, but I really liked Nikki and Jack from Everneath by Brodi Ashton. Such a sweet deep love. When Nikki went missing, Jack never stopped looking for her, he never gave up and never stopped loving her. And he committed the ultimate sacrafice for her as well. Looooove this book.

Also, Anna & Ettienne from Anna & The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. They are so perfect for each other that it’s sickening!

4. who i so want to be best friends with

It’s no surprise that I really enjoy road trips, and adventures in general. So I am thinking Roger from Amy & Rogers Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. He has awesome taste in music, so it’d me him, me (Maybe Amy too…), the car and the open road. The fast food along the way and the adventure!!

5. who i fell completely in love with (new literary crush)

Nice guy - Cricket from Lola & The Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins because he is just a sweet kind of guy. So loyal and consistent. I love guys like this. This is the settle down kind of guy.

Bad boy - Oh I tried to hate Wesley Rush from The DUFF by Kody Keplinger. I really did. But then he was all sexy and attractive.. and then he started to become nice all of a sudden. Sigh. Can’t resist Rush.

6. worst (best & baddest) villian

Warner from Shatter Me by Tehereh Mafi, he is absolutely evil!! And also I’d probably say Mayor Prentiss from The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness as a close runner up!

7. best character twist (who you loved then hated or vice versa)

Sophia Kelly from Sweetly by Jackson Pearce. I was suspicious of her to begin with, then I started to really like her, and then BAM! Hated her. Nice twist!

8. best kick-arse female

June from Legend by Marie Lu. She is like…. a female version of Arnie. She’s amazing. She’s brilliant with her mind and has a powerful body and is precise.

Runner up: Tris from Divergent by Veronica Roth. She is amazing.. and she really does kick ass as well. She has no fear, just completely throws her everything in.

9. best kick-arse male

Day from Legend by Marie Lu. He is all kinds of superhero. He can scale a 4 storey building in seconds. He is aware and fast and ninja like. I love him!

Honourable mention to Cas Lowood from Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake. He showed such tenacity by being brave enough to take on Anna when no one else would! He has guts!

10. broke your heart the most

“Alice” from Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott. Wow…. what a sad book. It’s always hard to read books that deal with abuse of any forms, but in particular this one as she was kidnapped and physically, mentally and sexually abused. How much can you break a person down? Completely heartbreaking but amazing story.

11. favourite pet/animal character award

Oh as sad as this book was, I am going to say Manchee the dog from The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Such a beautiful and loyal dog, and I have a soft spot for dogs myself! So I loved him. I was so sad at THAT part of the book though… nooo!!

12. best YA parents award

Lola’s dads from Lola & The Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins!! Completely and utterly adorable and more strict than straight parents! haha I also love that there’s a YA story that broaches homosexuality in this way also.

13. favourite sibling relationship

Oh I really thought the sibling relationship between Reggie and Henry from The Devouring series by Simon Holt was gorgeous. Reggie showed her devotion to her younger brother when he was p0ssessed by The Vours. She did everything she could to make sure she saved his life. Very endearing!

14. favourite best friends/friendship award

Firstly, why is it that best friends in YA books usually suck? They tend to either get jealous/steal boyfriends/backstab/gossip/other in a lot of books I’ve read. Where’s the loyalty?!

That being said I am going to say Sam, who was Hartley’s best friend in Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday. She stuck by Hartley and helped her investigate Courtney’s killer.

15. best/worst character names

Best - Harley Featherstone from Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday & Ettiene St Clair from Anna & The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Mmmm St Clair.

Worst - Lochan, Willa, Kit and Tiffin ALL from Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. Just.. no. Good book though, just didn’t love the names.

Bonus: best love triangle

Hannah - Noah - Ava from Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt. Hannah and Noah have a “thing”. Unfortunately Noah is the boyfriend of Hannah’s best friend Ava……. REALLY great triangle!

What do you think?

  • Chel says:

LOL I agree with you on the best/worst names. I def loved Etienne St. Clair. And even though I absolutely loved Forbidden, I also think the characters’ names were weird..

  • Leudiany says:

I read the host and i actually liked it, the ctcaarhers were really cool and jared and ian were hot lol in the beginning it is a bit slow but it picks up (promise) you can’t go into it thinking that this is going to be like twilight, b/c it’s not you have to go in thinking this is a book by one of my favorite authors and the story line sounds interesting (thats how i went into it, idk if she is ur favorite author tho) in the end i definatly recomend reading it enjoy! : )
