Stacking the Shelves #70

Good evening! I hope you’ve all had a great week! This week it’s just me who received some books. I was lucky to get some ARC’s this week! :)

Stacking the Shelves is bought to you by Tynga from Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

In Mel’s mailbox this week:

The Twin’s Daughter - Lauren Baratz-Logsted

Thank you to Bloomsbury for this book!! :)

Lucy is stunned when her mother’s identical twin sister shows up at the front door. Separated at birth, the twins have led dramatically different lives and Lucy’s mother, Aliese, will do anything to make it up to Helen. But Lucy soon suspects that Helen enjoys being mistaken for her mother a bit too much. Then, on New Year’s Day, Lucy finds her mother and aunt tied to chairs in the parlor. One has been brutally murdered-but which twin has died?

Say What You Will - Cammie McGovern

Thank you Harper Teen for this copy!

I want someone who will talk to me honestly about things. You’re the only person who ever has. Maybe you don’t know this, but when you’re disabled almost no one tells you the truth. They feel too awkward because the truth seems too sad, I guess. You were very brave to walk up to the crippled girl and say, essentially, wipe that sunny expression off your face and look at reality. That’s what I want you to do next year. Tell me the truth. That’s all.

Amy and Matthew didn’t know each other, really. They weren’t friends. Matthew remembered her, sure, but he remembered a lot of people from elementary school that he wasn’t friends with now.

Matthew never planned to tell Amy what he thought of her cheerful facade, but after he does, Amy realizes she needs someone like him in her life.

As they begin to spend more time with each other, Amy learns that Matthew has his own secrets and she decides to try to help him in the same way he’s helped her. And when what started out as a friendship turns into something neither of them expected, they realize that they tell each other everything-except the one thing that matters most.

Fool’s Gold (Order of Darkness #3) - Philippa Gregory

Thank you Simon & Schuster for this copy. I haven’t read the other books in this series, so not sure when I’ll be able to get around to this copy.

All that glitters may well be gold in the third book in the Order of Darkness quartet filled with intrigue, mystery, and romance, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Philippa Gregory.
Tasked to expose a coin counterfeiting scheme, Luca and Isolde travel to Venice just in time for Carnival. Amid the masks, parties, and excitement, the romantic attraction between the two reaches a new intensity that neither can deny.

Their romance is interrupted by the arrival of the alchemist, who may be the con artist they’ve been looking for. But as Luca starts to investigate the original charge, the alchemist reveals his true goal—he plans to create the Philosopher’s Stone, a mystical substance said to be capable of turning base metals into gold and producing the elixir of life.

With pounds of undocumented gold coins and an assistant who claims to be decades older than she appears, all evidence points to the possibility that the alchemist has succeeded in his task. But as Luca and Isolde get closer to the truth, they discover that reality may be more sinister than they ever could have imagined.

What do you think?

  • I’ve enjoyed some of Philippa Gregory’s books especially Wideacre and the Tudor series. Hope you like this one when you get to read it!

  • I haven’t read PG yet. I hope you can stop by mine.

I’m seeing Say What You Will around a fair bit…I should actually check it out, not just love the cover (but I do love the cover. I love that minimalistic look). Happy reading!
    My StS!

  • Nice haul of books. I’m still waiting to see if I get approved for Fools Gold. I loved the first two books in that series. The Twins Daughter also has a great cover as well.

  • Great haul. I have heard so many amazing things about PG’s books, but so far I have only read The Other Boleyn girl, which I loved. I hope you enjoy your books :) My STS.
