The Book Closes on 2014
I cannot believe that 2014 is almost over! Melissa and I have had a big year, and I thought I would share our thoughts on the year that has flown by!
What has been the best part of blogging in 2014?
Kristy - I really want to say you. I really do! But, I can’t. I have to say interviewing Laini Taylor was the best part of blogging in 2014! I would say that this cannot be topped in years to come - it was a dream come true!!!
But besides that, and all the fantastic book I have read this year, I will say it was you guys. I have made some amazing friends in 2014, and I am so greatful to have these people in my life! I have had a lot of fun and laughter with so many of you, and I am greatful for every friendship I have made.
What has been your favourite book(s) of 2014?
Kristy - I have read so many great books this year, but some of the standouts were: Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor, In the Shadows by Kiersten White and Jim Di Bartolo, Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas, The Winners Curse by Marie Rutkoski, We Were Liars by E Lockhart, Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch and All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven (2015 relaease).
What have you enjoyed most about books in 2014?
Kristy - I haven’t read any books this year that I didn’t like. I won’t say I loved all of them, but I certainly enjoyed them to some degree. I don’t know if I am getting better at picking books that I will like, or if it is pure dumb luck. But it is a little sad that I haven’t been able to sink my teeth into a review for a book I didn’t enjoy - I kind of want that challenge.
Another thing I have loved about books in 2014 is illustrations! There have been some books come out that are heavily illustrated (ie not just one or two pictures, but not graphic novels either), and I adore this blend of art!
What is your favourite book to movie adaptation of 2014?
Kristy - Oooh, tough choice! It is between The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and The Fault in Our Stars. I loved both - the acting in Mockingjay was superb, while the essence of TFiOS was captured perfectly (with the exception of the lack of Isaac love). I really want to say The Book Thief, but I haven’t read the book (bad, bad blogger).
What has been your bookish highlight of 2014?
Kristy - OMG - SOOOO MANY!!!
I met Laini Taylor! I MET LAINI TAYLOR! I still can’t believe it! And to make that experience even better, I also met Jim Di Bartolo. This one experience was not just not my bookish highlight of 2014, but the highlight of the year on a whole!
Then I got to see Laini again (well, twice actually), and even interview her . Yep, this year was totally awesome on the fangirl front.
But Laini and Jim aren’t the only awesome people I got to meet! I got to meet Asti from Oh, the Books! while I was in London (she lovingly looked after me, took me on a tour and made sure I got the Laini event on time). At this same event I also met Daphne from Winged Reviews and Rinn from Rinn Reads. But that is not all for meeting my fellow bloggers, this year I have also met some amazing Aussie bloggers, including Melissa (yes, my own co-blogger), Jaz at Fiction in Fiction in Fiction, Gina from Behind the Pages, Pavan from Keep It Fictional and Rochelle from Inside My Worlds.
Oh, and winning a painted copy of In The Shadows - yep, I fangirled over that too!
And since we are doing the best, we must to do the worst - what was your least favourite book you read in 2014?
Kristy - City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare and The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart.
Final thoughts on 2014….
Kristy -2014 has been the best year ever!!! With my trip to Prague, meeting Laini and Jim (still fangirlling) and meeting Laini again and having the opportunity to interview her - it could not have been a better year for me!!!
I have had a great blogging year - I have not read any books that I hated, I have found some amazing authors (both debut and established) and I have made some truly amazing friends.
The last part of this year has been hectic for me in my other life, and sadly that has affected my blogging. I am sorry about this, and I hope to fix this in the future - but I thank you for all your support! You guys are made of awesome!
I can’t wait to see you all in 2015! Happy reading!
What do you think?
