Faves of TwentyEleven: The Scenes

Nomes from Inkcrush is back with her Faves of 2011 meme! You guys may have seen my post months ago with the Faves of 2011 (So far), and this one is to sum up the year that was “Twenty Eleven”. You can check out the five days’ themes and their categories at Inkcrush and join in yourself!

Day Three: The Scenes

1. best first chapter

I read Shatter Me by Tehereh Mafi simply because I sampled the first chapter from the website. It was SO good I needed to know what happened afterwards. And really, I sometimes think you can measure a book by the impact the first chapter has on you!

2. best climax

The timing of the story in Divergent by Veronica Roth was so well paced, it really built the story up to a huge climax at the end of the book - I can’t believe that Insurgent (the sequel) is not too far away, I am dying to read this book!

3. best ending

I really loved the ending of Everneath by Brodi Ashton - it left us on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I just know that the second book has a lot of answers to give us after leaving us where it did at the end of the first one!

4. best plot twist/revelation (no spoilers!)

The “double tap” twist (2 twists in 10 pages) in I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. Not only did it completely change the direction of the book, but it changed your perspective of one of the characters in a 360 way! My jaw dropped in that moment.

5. scariest/most disturbing scene

The snow scene in The Devouring by Simon Holt with a possessed Henry being choked. Not only was it a scary book, it was a disturbing scene in a scary book!

6. steamiest scene (or sweetest/sexiest kiss award)

THAT scene with Harper and Jake in Saving June by Hannah Harrington was completely hot. Definitely the steamiest scene I’ve read in YA in 2011, but at the same time it was building up for a while before that, so it was kinda like “finally”!

7. best swoon-worthy moment

Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday when Hartley sneaks into Chase’s room and hides under his bed, and spys on his naked torso when he gets changed. Hot!

8. biggest nail-biting moment

Tris when she has to pick a faction in Divergent by Veronica Roth. That was nerve racking!!

Also I am going to say the end of Where She Went by Gayle Forman. I really had no idea which direction this book was going in, I wanted so much for Adam and Mia to be together and when he was walking off, I was just so nervous.

9. most hilarious scene

So many scenes from Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. I pretty much lost control though everytime Miss New Mexico was mentioned with half of an areoplane dinner tray stuck in her forehead the whole book… I loved it.

10. most heart-breaking/tear-jerker moment

The end of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, when everything ties in together, and Connor understands what has happened, and as a reader everything we’ve read has just come together. Heartbreaking. The tears flowed!!
