Monday Mailbox #9

Good evening readers, I am back… I’ve had the flu, I’ve even had a short stint in hospital and I have bounced back and I am ready to share my books with you!

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Mailbox Monday is originally hosted by Marcia from A girl and her books and The Printed Page. In the summer of 2010 Marcia decided she needed a change in hosting and didn’t want to rely on one blogger alone to do it because its a lot of work so she decided to put Mailbox Monday on tour and so far with great success it has made monthly stops at more then a dozen blogs and this year is booked until the end.

Haunters - Thomas Taylor

Thank you very much to Scholastic Australia for this review copy. This book looks like an awesome time travelling story, and if I can pry it from my mothers hands I’ll be able to tell you first hand! haha She saw it and decided she wanted to read this and is half way through it. Mum said she is loving it. I am reading this shortly just as soon as she’s done with it.

Eddie, Adam and David have the same gift. Separated by generations, they are linked by their ability to time-travel. Using their dreams, they can appear like ghosts, wherever and whenever they want. The first is the genius who discovers dreamwalking. The second is a Haunter, a dream-terrorist, determined to change history foris own ends. The last is the novice dreamwalker who must battle to save his family, and himself, from oblivion.

Hammering Iron - L.S. Lawrence

Thank you to Scholastic Australia for this review copy!

In ancient Greece, sometime between the stories of Homer and the histories of Herodotus, something happened that changed the world. Two brothers, Niko and Paramon, one destined to serve a lord and the other to serve a merchant, are forced apart. One must stay; the other must follow his lord wherever he goes. Paramon is thrown back on his own resources, but will do everything he can to make his own way. And his destiny is to discover a secret that will change everything, a secret that men will not hesitate to kill for.

The Unwritten Rule - Elizabeth Scott

I really enjoy Elizabeth Scott’s writing. The Unwritten Rule is not a new book (released in 2010), but I have been wanting to read more of her books, so I bought this!

Sarah and Brianna have always been friends. Even though Sarah met Ryan first, she’s not surprised that he ends up with Brianna (even though Sarah has a massive crush on him). The three of them hang out, and Sarah and Ryan’s friendship grows until one night an innocent exchange between them leads to a moment that makes Sarah realize that Ryan might be interested in her after all. But if there’s one unwritten rule, it’s this: you don’t mess around with a friend’s boyfriend.

So Sarah tries to resist temptation. But with the three of them thrown together more and more, tension builds between Sarah and Ryan, and when they find themselves alone together at one point, they realize they just can’t fight how they feel anymore….

Counting Backwards - Laura Lascarso

Oh this looks SO good. This is a new release also - keen to read this one.

When troubled Taylor Truwell is caught with a stolen car and lands in court for resisting arrest, her father convinces the judge of an alternative to punishment: treatment in a juvenile psychiatric correctional facility. Sunny Meadows is anything but the easy way out, and Taylor has to fight hard just to hold on to her sanity as she battles her parents, her therapist, and vicious fellow patients. But even as Taylor struggles to hold on to her stubborn former self, she finds herself relenting as she lets in two unlikely friends-Margo, a former child star and arsonist, and AJ, a mysterious boy who doesn’t speak. In this striking debut, Laura Lascarso weaves together a powerful story of anger and self-destruction, hope and love.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick - Joe Schrieber

I had to buy this book - it had me at New York! It’s received some pretty solid reviews, and so I made it mine.

It’s prom night—and Perry just wants to stick to his own plan and finally play a much-anticipated gig with his band in the Big Apple. But when his mother makes him take Gobija Zaksauskas—their quiet, geeky Lithuanian exchange student—to the prom, he never expects that his ordinary high school guy life will soon turn on its head. Perry finds that Gobi is on a mission, and Perry has no other choice but to go along for a reckless ride through Manhattan’s concrete grid with a trained assassin in Dad’s red Jag.

Infused with capers, car chases, heists, hits, henchmen, and even a bear fight, this story mixes romance, comedy, and tragedy in a true teen coming-of-age adventure—and it’s not over until it’s “au revoir.”

So that is all from me this week, what did you receive this week? Let me know - leave your links in the comments section below!
