Stacking the Shelves #63

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week! Kristy and I had a fantastic week once again, we’ve been extremely lucky!

Stacking the Shelves is bought to you by Tynga from Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

In Mel’s mailbox this week:

The Skull in the Wood - Sandra Greaves

Thanks very much to Scholastic for this copy!

Deep on Dartmoor, cousins Matt and Tilda discover a skull. And from that moment black things happen. Birds and animals turn bad, and there’s talk of the return of an old curse.

Twelve (The Last Thirteen #2) - James Phelan

Thank you Scholastic! I need to read the first one of this - and I had it in my hands last night at Dymocks when I was at the Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner book launch for These Broken Stars and I put it back thinking I’d buy it on the way out and FORGOT! Annoying. I will make sure I go back and get a copy though. This looks like a cool series!

This is where you die, Sam.

The nightmare is real and Sam must face his destiny. Will the chilling prophecy and the ultimate battle against Solaris come true?

Nothing could have prepared Sam for this terrifying new life as one of the last 13 Dreamers. From New York to Egypt, to Italy - the search for the rest of the last 13 will take Sam across the globe. He cannot do it alone, but who can he really trust? He must find the rest of the last 13.

The race has begun.

13 books. 13 nightmares. 1 destiny.

Are you one of them?

Batman Volume 1: The Court of Owls

I bought this copy after accidentally buying volume 2 first. So I thought I best buy volume 1 so I can actually start reading it!

After a series of brutal murders rocks Gotham City, Batman begins to realize that perhaps these crimes go far deeper than appearances suggest. As the Caped Crusader begins to unravel this deadly mystery, he discovers a conspiracy going back to his youth and beyond to the origins of the city he’s sworn to protect. Could the Court of Owls, once thought to be nothing more than an urban legend, be behind the crime and corruption? Or is Bruce Wayne losing his grip on sanity and falling prey to the pressures of his war on crime?

Collects issues #1-7 of “Batman.

In Kristy’s mailbox this week:

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines #4) - Richelle Mead

Thanks to Penguin Australia for this book!

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn’t over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there’s still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

Anna Dressed In Blood (Anna #1) - Kendare Blake

I have picked up this book so many time, but never actually purchased it. This time, I did :)

Cas Lowood, armed with his late father’s athame knife, kills ghosts. In Thunder Bay, Anna, forever 16, drips blood on her white dress from throat slit in 1958, and rips apart anyone who enters her house - except Cas. He makes new friends - high school queen Carmel, jock Will, admiring nerd Thomas and Tom’s voodoo grandpa Morfran - to fight this demon.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) - Tahereh Mafi

I was waiting to get a matching set of this book, but I settled on getting the older AU cover as it was on special, and I have heard such wonderful things about it!

I place my hand on his chest. I dare to trace the outline of the bird soaring across his skin. “You’re my bird,” I tell him. “You’re my bird and you’re going to help me fly away.”

Things happen when people touch Juliette. Strange things. Bad things. Dead things.

No one knows why her touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.

But Juliette has plans of her own. After a lifetime without freedom, without love, she’s finally discovering her strength — and maybe even a future with the one boy she thought she’d lost forever.

The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) - Samantha Shannon

Yes, I already had a copy of this one, but I found a signed copy while in Melbourne, and well, I couldn’t resist.

It is the year 2059. Several major world cities are under the control of a security force called Scion. Paige Mahoney works in the criminal underworld of Scion London, part of a secret cell known as the Seven Seals. The work she does is unusual: scouting for information by breaking into others’ minds. Paige is a dreamwalker, a rare kind of clairvoyant, and in this world, the voyants commit treason simply by breathing.

But when Paige is captured and arrested, she encounters a power more sinister even than Scion. The voyant prison is a separate city—Oxford, erased from the map two centuries ago and now controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. These creatures, the Rephaim, value the voyants highly—as soldiers in their army.

Paige is assigned to a Rephaite keeper, Warden, who will be in charge of her care and training. He is her master. Her natural enemy. But if she wants to regain her freedom, Paige will have to learn something of his mind and his own mysterious motives.
