Stacking the Shelves #76

Good afternoon! How have you all been? Well I should hope! Sorry, we didn’t post a Stacking The Shelves post for last week so now we have two weeks worth!

Stacking the Shelves is bought to you by Tynga from Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

In Mel’s mailbox:

Half Bad (Half Life #1) - Sally Green

I bought this copy after seeing how amazing it looked.

Half Bad by Sally Green is a breathtaking debut novel about one boy’s struggle for survival in a hidden society of witches.

You can’t read, can’t write, but you heal fast, even for a witch. You get sick if you stay indoors after dark. You hate White Witches but love Annalise, who is one. You’ve been kept in a cage since you were fourteen. All you’ve got to do is escape and find Mercury, the Black Witch who eats boys. And do that before your seventeenth birthday.

In Kristy’s mailbox:

Half Bad (Half Life #1) - Sally Green

Thank you Penguin Australia for a copy of this book! And I have to say, I think the cover of this book is amazing (with the back the same as the front but the background being white rather than black, and the spine being bright red)

Finding Cinderella (Hopeless #2.5) - Colleen Hoover

Thank you so much Simon & Schuster Australia for copy of this novella! I am so pleased that this novella is now in printed form, as it can sit right next to Hopeless and Losing Hope on my bookshelf… but I also think it is amazing that this was printed due to the CoHort fandom requesting it (well, demanding it actually) - it just goes to show what wonderful things fandoms can achieve. And just so you know, this printed edition not only has a Colleen’s own cinderella story, it also includes an epilogue that was not included in the digital release of this novella, and a sneak peek at Maybe Someday!

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell

Thank you Pan Macmillan for a copy of this book! I am very excited that this is finally coming out in Australia.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .

But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Maybe Someday - Colleen Hoover

Thank you so much Simon & Schuster Australia for this book! I am very excited to read and listen to this!!!!!

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

This Girl (Slammed #3) - Colleen Hoover

Thank you Collen Hoover for this book! I won this in a competition and it arrived this week! Not only did Colleen sign this book, but she also sent some amazing swag (2 bookmarks, pen and bag)

Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.

In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from hispoint of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.

The Secret Diamond Sisters (The Secret Diamond Sisters #1) - Michelle Madow

Thank you to Harlequin Teen Australia for this copy!

Savannah. Courtney. Peyton.

The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly the Strip’s most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit right in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

What do you think?

  • Both getting Half Bad this week? Maybe it’s a sign I should put it on my to-read list :P It does looks great.
And that’s a lot of Colleen Hoover! Good thing she’s a great author and reading her books is a pleasure :)

    • Kristy says:

I have heard so many great things about Half Bad, and I am trying to find the time to read it. And the book itself is absolutely gorgeous (I know why Melissa picked it up!).
And yes, so much Colleen Hoover… I didn’t really think it was a lot as they were coming in, as one came one week and the other two came the next (one early and one late in the week), but when I listed them, it clicked that there were 3 :) But yes, as she is one of my favourite authors, I don’t mind one little bit!

  • I just finished Fangirl and absolutely loved it. :) It gets a bit of a mixed rap (from what I’ve read of reviews so far anyway) but aaaah I loved it so much. And I have Half Bad too! OMG I’m so freakishly excited for it. It’s gorgeous to look at as well. Bonus.

    • Kristy says:

I am glad you liked Fangirl Cait! I enjoyed it too - but I haven’t read any reviews yet. I remember when it first came out in the US it was getting a lot of positive feedback and that is what made me want to read it… but I haven’t read recently (I avoided reviews once I knew I would be reading it as I don’t like to taint my reading experience).
And yes, Half Bad is a gorgeous book - soooo pretty :) I hope you enjoy the inside as much as the outside!

  • I’ve seen a lot of reviews of Half Bad in newspapers and blogs but the Goodreads blurb didn’t make it sound that exciting so I’m not too sure about it yet…Hope you enjoy it!

    • Kristy says:

Thank you :) But yes, you need to be attracted to the book - no matter how many great things you hear about a book, the storyline needs to appeal to you!

  • Ikao says:

wow Half Bad week! I’ve heard great reviews about it mostly 4 stars. Hope you’ll enjoy it and other books!
Ikao recently posted…Wishful Wednesday #3My Profile

  • Awesome haul ladies :) I really need to pick up Half Bad, I need more witches in my life! I’m so excited as well that Finding Cinderella is out in printed edition! One of the things I hate most about novellas is that they can’t sit on my shelves with the series :P AND MAYBE SOMEDAY! So much Colleen Hoover awesome <3 I hope you enjoy everything, Happy reading!!!

    • Kristy says:

Thanks Lauren :) I am very excited that Finding Cinderella is now in print! I agree, I like to have books sitting on my self, and novellas rarely make it there (which is why I really appreciate when they do - either as a standalone print edition, or an anthology, I am just happy to have it on my self).
And I am extremely excited about Maybe Someday - Colleen Hoover and music - what a great combination!

  • Sofia says:

I got Half Bad this week as well, and I’m really eager to start reading it, but I have a few to read before it. :) Fan Girl is also on my TBR list - people seem have loved it quite a bit! Have a great weekend and happy reading!

    • Kristy says:

I hope you really enjoy both Half Bad and Fangirl when they reach the top of your TBR list! And happy reading for everything between now and then as well :)
