Monday Mailbox #14

Hello everyone! Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Mailbox Monday is originally hosted by Marcia from A girl and her books and The Printed Page.

Teeth - Hannah Moskowitz

Thank you to Simon Pulse for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book, it looks SO creepy (in a good way)! haha

Rudy’s life is flipped when his family moves to a remote island. Rudy sinks deeper and deeper into loneliness and lies awake at night listening to the ocean beneath his family’s rickety house.

Then he meets Diana, who makes him wonder what he even knows about love, and Teeth, who makes him question what he knows about anything. Rudy can’t remember the last time he felt so connected to someone, but being friends with Teeth is more than a little bit complicated. He soon learns that Teeth has terrible secrets. Violent secrets. Secrets that will force Rudy to choose between his own happiness and his brother’s life.

Fingerprints of You - Kristen-Paige Madonia

I saw this on someone else’s Mailbox Monday last week and it looked super interesting so I bought it for my Kindle on Amazon!

Lemon grew up with Stella, a single mom who wasn’t exactly maternal. Stella always had a drink in her hand and a new boyfriend every few months, and when things got out of hand, she would whisk Lemon off to a new town for a fresh beginning. Now, just as they are moving yet again, Lemon discovers that she is pregnant from a reckless encounter—with a guy Stella had been flirting with.

On the verge of revisiting her mother’s mistakes, Lemon struggles to cope with the idea of herself as a young unmarried mother, as well as the fact that she’s never met her own father. Determined to have at least one big adventure before she has the baby, Lemon sets off on a cross-country road trip, intending not only to meet her father, but to figure out who she wants to be.

Sirens - Janet Fox

I received a copy of this from Netgalley! It’s due for release next month. I am a *tad* bit confused as it says book 3, but the first two books actually kinda look like standalones with different characters.. if anyone can clarify that would be stellar!

When Jo Winter’s parents send her off to live with her rich cousin on the glittering island of Manhattan, it’s to find a husband and forget about her brother Teddy’s death. But all that glitters is not gold,. Caught up in the swirl of her cousin’s bobbed-hair set—and the men that court them—Jo soon realizes that the talk of marriage never stops, and behind the seemingly boundless gains are illicit business endeavors, gangsters, and their molls. Jo would much rather spend time the handsome but quiet Charles, a waiter at the Algonquin Hotel, than drape herself over a bootlegger. But when she befriends a moll to one of the most powerful men in town, Jo begins to uncover secrets—secrets that threaten an empire and could secure Jo’s freedom from her family. Can her newfound power buy her love? Or will it to ruin Jo, and everyone around her?

Hollowland - Amanda Hocking

I got this for free from Amazon! YAY! We all love free stuff. And this looks like a really great read too, keen to get into this.

“This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door.”

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

So that is all from me this week, what did you receive this week? Let me know - leave your links in the comments section below!

Monday Mailbox #13

Hello everyone! Welcome to my Monday Mailbox - two weeks worth since I missed last week’s deadline! I am excited about the books I received this week, I can’t wait to share them with you!

Eve & Adam - Michael Grant & Katherine Applegate

How amazing is this cover?! I bought the ebook version of this off Amazon and I’m itching to start reading this!

Sixteen-year-old Evening Spiker lives an affluent life in San Francisco with her mother who is a geneticist and owner of Spiker Biotech. Eve has never stopped to think how off it is that she’s never been sick until she’s struck by a car and is exposed to extensive injuries. Injuries that seem to be healing faster than physically possible.

While recuperating in Spiker Biotech’s lush facilities, she meets Solo Plissken, a very attractive boy her age who spent his life at Spiker Biotech. Solo drops hints to Evening that something isn’t right, and her mother may be behind it. With the help of Solo, Evening uncovers secrets so big they could change the world completely.

What’s Left Of Me - Kat Zhang

Thank you so much to Harper Collins Australia for this review copy of What’s Left Of Me - I can’t wait to read this.

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . .

The Diviners - Libba Bray

This looks amazing! I ordered this from The Book Depository and it’s huge! Almost 600 pages!

Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City-and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult-also known as “The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies.” When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer-if he doesn’t catch her first.

Working Stiff - Rachel Caine

Penguin Books Australia recently sent me the second book in this series Two Weeks’ Notice, but I haven’t read the first one yet! I found this at K-Mart cheap!

Wit the help of corporate double-agent Patrick McCallister, Bryn has a chance to take down the bigger problem-pharmaceutical company Pharmadene, which treats death as the ultimate corporate loyalty program. She’d better do it fast, before she becomes a zombie slave-a real working stiff. She’d be better off dead…

Life After Death - Damien Echols

Not YA, but I have been following the WM3 case since I was a teenager and am so happy they were released!

In 1993 three teenagers, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelley Jr were arrested and charged with the murders of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. The ensuing trial was rife with inconsistencies, false testimony and superstition. Echols was accused of, among other things, practising witchcraft and satanic rituals – a result of the “satanic panic” prevalent in the media at the time. Baldwin and Miskelley were sentenced to life in prison. Echols, deemed the ringleader, was sentenced to death. He was eighteen years old.

In a shocking reversal of events, all three were suddenly released in August 2011. This is Damien Echols’ story in full: from abuses by prison guards and wardens, to descriptions of inmates and deplorable living conditions, to the incredible reserves of patience, spirituality, and perseverance that kept him alive and sane for nearly two decades. Echols also writes about his complicated and painful childhood. Like Dead Man Walking, Life After Death is destined to be a classic.

Monday Mailbox #12

Good morning! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day - today is my first day of two weeks annual leave, so I am feeling great! Smaller week this week, I didn’t purchase any books, but I did receive three in the mail.

The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater

Thank you so much to Scholastic Australia for this! I am about 140 pages into this at the moment and it’s hard to explain, however it’s really really good!!! I am just about to head down to a cafe now to get into it more. Scholastic sent me an ARC copy this time last week, and then this morning in the mail I received the most beautiful hardcover finished copy of it. Just gorgeous! If you haven’t seen the cover up close, check it out, the part that appears white is actually a pearl silver that has a lovely shine!

The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten #1) - Julie Kagawa

Thank you so much to Harlequin Teen Australia for an ARC copy of this book. I am looking forward to seeing what the finished copy will look like!

I have a confession to make.. and I am only saying this because I am completely changing this at the moment. I haven’t read the Iron Fey series…. *ducks for cover*. I know! I know. I own them. So I am starting now with The Iron King (just as soon as I finish The Raven Boys). And my aim for my annual leave is to get up to date as much as possible so I can read The Lost Prince. Completely aware this is a new series, but I am assuming some background helps right? And I am a little bit pedantic about making sure I know the full story before heading in. So be prepared for a few Julie Kagawa reviews coming your way!

So that is all from me this week, what did you receive this week? Let me know - leave your links in the comments section below!

Monday Mailbox #11

Good morning everyone!! Have you all had a good reading week? :) I’ve had a pretty big week. Had a big buy up this week! It started when I went to Audible.com and had a spend up on some audiobooks. And then it continued on the weekend when I found some bargains at All Books 4 Less and then I used my gift card at Dymocks….. seems like I did a lot of damage, but all in all I only ended up spending $25 on 11 books/audiobooks! I had credit at Audible and Dymocks, and I scored heaps of $5 books!

Carnival of Souls - Melissa Marr

This looks absolutely amazing, not to mention how awesome this cover looks, right? In a city of daimons, rigid class lines separate the powerful from the power-hungry. And at the heart of The City is the Carnival of Souls, where both murder and pleasure are offered up for sale. Once in a generation, the carnival hosts a deadly competition that allows every daimon a chance to join the ruling elite. Without the competition, Aya and Kaleb would both face bleak futures-if for different reasons. For each of them, fighting to the death is the only way to try to live.

The Edge of Nowhere (Saratoga Woods #1) - Elizabeth George

I am intrigued by this book.. Elizabeth George is a bestselling fiction writer who has been well known for her adult fiction, but this is her first YA book and it’s piqued my interest for this reason.

Whidbey Island may be only a ferry ride from Seattle, but it’s a world apart. When Becca King arrives there, she doesn’t suspect the island will become her home for the next four years. Put at risk by her ability to hear “whispers”-the thoughts of others-Becca is on the run from her stepfather, whose criminal activities she has discovered. Stranded and alone, Becca is soon befriended by Derric, a Ugandon orphan adopted by a local family; Seth, a kindhearted musician and high school dropout; Debbie, a recovering alcoholic who takes her in; and Diana, with whom Becca shares a mysterious psychic connection.

New Girl - Paige Harbison

I found this one for a bargain so I snatched this one up quickly. I didn’t mind Paige Harbison’s other novel Here Lies Bridget and whilst New Girl hasn’t received overwhelming reviews, I am going to make up my mind about this one myself I think!

The Map of Time (Trilogía Victoriana #1) - Felix J Palma

This seems to intermingal historical fiction, with sci-fi and maybe a little bit of paranormal which sounds like an awesome mix.

Set in Victorian London with characters real and imagined, The Map of Time boasts a triple play of intertwined plots in which a skeptical H.G. Wells is called upon to investigate purported incidents of time travel and to save lives and literary classics, including Dracula and The Time Machine, from being wiped from existence.

Liesl & Po - Lauren Oliver

Lauren Oliver could author the phonebook and I’d probably still love it. I could have sworn black and blue I bought this when it first came out, but alas cannot find it anywhere, so I found it for $5 and re-puchased it.

Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice—until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone.

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Triology #1) - Deborah Harkness

This book has had so many rave reviews. Whilst not YA fiction, this book has been on my to be read list for a long time after a colleague recommended it to me. I have the book, but bought the audiobook yesterday to push me to get started on this!

Described as a richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2) - Deborah Harkness

I also bought the audiobook version of the sequel for A Discovery of Witches. This just came out last month or the month before and from what everyone who has read the first one has told me, there’s a lot of questions that this book holds the answers to. So I prepared myself early and got this too. The third book is scheduled for release next year sometime.

Enchanted - Alethea Kontis

Essentially this is a fairytale retelling of The Princess and the Frog, YA style. I bought the audiobook version of this. It’s been a while since I opened up a fairy tale, however this looks like there’s a variation on the original story and I loved Jackson Pearce’s versions of fairytale retellings, so I am going to see what I think of this. From all the reviews I have brushed over though, this looks to be a bit of a winner!

Monday Mailbox #10

Good evening readers! Hope you’re all well in reading land! :)

The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle #1) - Maggie Stiefvater

Thank you very much to Scholastic Australia for this review copy, The Raven Boys looks SO good!! From the description of the book it looks quite complex and had to describe, so I think this is simply a matter of just jumping in and experiencing the story for myself. It’s recieved some amazing reviews and this is due for release in 8 days as well!

Outpost (Razorland #2) - Ann Aguirre

I LOVED Enclave (the first book in this series) so so much, it was one of the best dystopian novels I read in 2011 and I’ve been hanging out to find out what happens to Deuce and Fade in this sequel! May have given a little squeal of glee when I received this! haha

Monday Mailbox #9

Good evening readers, I am back… I’ve had the flu, I’ve even had a short stint in hospital and I have bounced back and I am ready to share my books with you!

In the summer of 2010 Marcia decided she needed a change in hosting and didn’t want to rely on one blogger alone to do it because its a lot of work so she decided to put Mailbox Monday on tour and so far with great success it has made monthly stops at more then a dozen blogs and this year is booked until the end.

Haunters - Thomas Taylor

Thank you very much to Scholastic Australia for this review copy. This book looks like an awesome time travelling story, and if I can pry it from my mothers hands I’ll be able to tell you first hand! haha She saw it and decided she wanted to read this and is half way through it. Mum said she is loving it. I am reading this shortly just as soon as she’s done with it.

Eddie, Adam and David have the same gift. Separated by generations, they are linked by their ability to time-travel. Using their dreams, they can appear like ghosts, wherever and whenever they want. The first is the genius who discovers dreamwalking. The second is a Haunter, a dream-terrorist, determined to change history foris own ends. The last is the novice dreamwalker who must battle to save his family, and himself, from oblivion.

Hammering Iron - L.S. Lawrence

Thank you to Scholastic Australia for this review copy!

In ancient Greece, sometime between the stories of Homer and the histories of Herodotus, something happened that changed the world. Two brothers, Niko and Paramon, one destined to serve a lord and the other to serve a merchant, are forced apart. One must stay; the other must follow his lord wherever he goes. Paramon is thrown back on his own resources, but will do everything he can to make his own way. And his destiny is to discover a secret that will change everything, a secret that men will not hesitate to kill for.

The Unwritten Rule - Elizabeth Scott

I really enjoy Elizabeth Scott’s writing. The Unwritten Rule is not a new book (released in 2010), but I have been wanting to read more of her books, so I bought this!

Sarah and Brianna have always been friends. Even though Sarah met Ryan first, she’s not surprised that he ends up with Brianna (even though Sarah has a massive crush on him). The three of them hang out, and Sarah and Ryan’s friendship grows until one night an innocent exchange between them leads to a moment that makes Sarah realize that Ryan might be interested in her after all. But if there’s one unwritten rule, it’s this: you don’t mess around with a friend’s boyfriend.

So Sarah tries to resist temptation. But with the three of them thrown together more and more, tension builds between Sarah and Ryan, and when they find themselves alone together at one point, they realize they just can’t fight how they feel anymore….

Counting Backwards - Laura Lascarso

Oh this looks SO good. This is a new release also - keen to read this one.

When troubled Taylor Truwell is caught with a stolen car and lands in court for resisting arrest, her father convinces the judge of an alternative to punishment: treatment in a juvenile psychiatric correctional facility. Sunny Meadows is anything but the easy way out, and Taylor has to fight hard just to hold on to her sanity as she battles her parents, her therapist, and vicious fellow patients. But even as Taylor struggles to hold on to her stubborn former self, she finds herself relenting as she lets in two unlikely friends-Margo, a former child star and arsonist, and AJ, a mysterious boy who doesn’t speak. In this striking debut, Laura Lascarso weaves together a powerful story of anger and self-destruction, hope and love.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick - Joe Schrieber

I had to buy this book - it had me at New York! It’s received some pretty solid reviews, and so I made it mine.

It’s prom night—and Perry just wants to stick to his own plan and finally play a much-anticipated gig with his band in the Big Apple. But when his mother makes him take Gobija Zaksauskas—their quiet, geeky Lithuanian exchange student—to the prom, he never expects that his ordinary high school guy life will soon turn on its head. Perry finds that Gobi is on a mission, and Perry has no other choice but to go along for a reckless ride through Manhattan’s concrete grid with a trained assassin in Dad’s red Jag.

Infused with capers, car chases, heists, hits, henchmen, and even a bear fight, this story mixes romance, comedy, and tragedy in a true teen coming-of-age adventure—and it’s not over until it’s “au revoir.”

Monday Mailbox #8

Good evening readers!! Welcome to a very late edition of Monday Mailbox, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week… although it’ll be two weeks worth this time around!

Second Chance Summer - Morgan Matson

I loved Morgan’s first book Amy & Eric’s Epic Detour, so I am very keen to see what she has in store for us this time. I have heard this is one that’s going to make us all cry!

Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

The Thing About The Truth - Lauren Barnholdt

Ahhh Lauren Barnholdt, she writes some very engaging books. I have loved previous books she has written and I’ve bought a copy of her newest book - it’s been getting some good reviews too!

When Kelsey and Isaac meet, it’s anything but love at first sight. She thinks he’s an entitled brat, and he thinks she’s a stuck-up snob. So it surprises them both when they start to fall for each other. Kelsey’s happy for the first time in months, and Isaac’s never felt this way about anyone before…But nothing’s ever completely perfect. Everyone has secrets, and Isaac and Kelsey are no exceptions. These two may have fallen hard, but there’s one thing that can ruin it all: the truth.

Something Strange & Deadly - Susan Dennard

Mmmm bit of cover love for this book, I absolutely love it! It’s been a while since I got into a great zombie book, so I am looking forward to getting into this!

The year is 1876, and there’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.

Monday Mailbox #7

Good evening readers!! Welcome to Monday Mailbox, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Speechless - Hannah Harrington

Thank you to Harlequin Teen for this copy! I really enjoy Hannah’s work, I loved her work in Saving June, so I am looking forward to this!

Everyone knows that Chelsea Knot can’t keep a secret. Until now. Because the last secret she shared turned her into a social outcast-and nearly got someone killed.

Now Chelsea’s has taken a vow of silence-to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting everyone else. And if she thinks keeping secrets if hard, not speaking up when she’s ignored, ridiculed and even attacked is worse.

But there’s strength in silence, and in new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way. People she never noticed before. A boy she might even fall for. If only her new friends can forgive what she’s done. If only she can forgive herself.

Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles #1) - Gena Showalter

Thank you Harlequin Teen for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book! My gosh, it’s so pretty!!! The cover I have is slightly different but I can’t find a copy of it online. Same picture, but a pretty green border instead.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real…. To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions #1) - Louise Rozett

Thank you Harlequin Teen for this Advanced Readers Copy. I am looking forward to this read.. it looks deeper than what it looks like on the blurb!

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some CONFESSIONS to make… #1: I’m livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I’m allowed to be irate, don’t you?

#2: I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who “might” be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

#3: High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and “seeing red” means being angry-get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

After (Once #4) - Morris Gleitzman

I bought this copy, and it was only after I bought it I realised it was the 4th book in a series! Heartbroken.. it looks incredible. So I am going to find the others and buy them!

In the fourth part of Felix’s story, continuing his adventures in World War Two, he faces perhaps his greatest challenge - to find hope when he’s lost almost everything, including his parents. As Europe goes through the final agonizing stages of the war, Felix struggles to reconcile hatred and healing. He’s helped by a new friend, but if he should lose her as well …

Between The Lines - Jodi Picoult & Samantha Van Leer

I bought this copy also! Jodi Picoult is one of my all time fave authors, so I just had to get this since it’s her first YA title and written with her own daughter!

What happens when happily ever after… isn’t?

Delilah hates school as much as she loves books. In fact, there’s one book in particular she can’t get enough of. If anyone knew how many times she has read and re-read the sweet little fairy tale she found in the library, especially the popular kids, she’d be sent to social Siberia… forever.

To Delilah, though, this fairy tale is more than just words on the page. Sure, there’s a handsome (well, okay, hot) prince, and a castle, and an evil villain, but it feels as if there’s something deeper going on. And one day, Delilah finds out there is. Turns out, this Prince Charming is real, and a certain fifteen-year-old loner has caught his eye. But they’re from two different worlds, and how can it ever possibly work?

So that is all from me this week, what did you receive this week? Let me know - leave your links in the comments section below!

Everything Left Unsaid - Jessica Davidson

Thank you to Pan Macmillan Australia! I am currently reading this at the moment, and it’s worth the hype so far. Plus, it’s nice to be reading a YA book written by an Aussie author. Heaps relatable!

Tai and Juliet have been best friends forever – since they met at kindy and decided to get married in first grade. They love music, beach walks, energy drinks and, they are slowly discovering, each other. Until Tai gets sick. And not everything you wish for can come true. A poignant story of first love, hope, grief, family, and the twistedness of life.

Ransomwood - Sherryl Jordan

Thank you Scholastic NZ for this book. I absolutely adore the cover of this book (so sweet) and the plot sounds so different and interesting.. I am looking forward to reading this, it’s received amazing reviews!

Spurned by her lover, and with her uncle threatening to
marry her off to his odious widowed brother, Gwenifer is
almost relieved to be sent away to escort the magistrate’s
old, blind mother to Ransomwood, where the tears of the
statue of the Holy Mother are said to have healing qualities.

Together with Harry, the village halfwit, who is escaping a sentence of hanging for being in charge of an ox that trampled a child almost to death, they embark on a perilous journey … each of them looking for a different kind of healing.

When It Happens - Susane Colasanti

Thank you Scholastic UK for this book. I’ve already started to read this book and it’s super cute so far!! Brings me back to my own teen years!

An off-the-wall love story told in two voices. Straight-laced Sara dreams of two things: getting into her first-choice university and finding true love. Rock-loving slacker Tobey also dreams of two things: winning Battle of the Bands – and winning Sara. He is determined to make her fall in love with him. Tobey’s quirky wit and big blue eyes are hard for Sara to ignore. But can a scruffy rock-star wannabe ever win the heart of a girl who’s both beautiful and brainy? Sara and Tobey’s intense connection will have you rooting for them from the very minute they meet!

Two Weeks’ Notice (Revivalist #2) - Rachel Caine

Thank you Penguin Australia for this book. I haven’t read the first book in this series yet (Working Stiff), however I do own it, so I really need to get around to these books - they look great!

After dying and being revived with the experimental drug Returne, Bryn Davis is theoretically free to live her unlife—with regular doses to keep her going. But Bryn knows that the government has every intention of keeping a tight lid on Pharmadene’s life-altering discovery, no matter the cost.

And when some of the members of a support group for Returne addicts suddenly disappear, Bryn begins to wonder if the government is methodically removing a threat to their security, or if some unknown enemy has decided to run the zombies into the ground…

Monday Mailbox #5

Good evening readers!! Welcome to Monday Mailbox, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week!

Temptation - Karen Ann Hopkins

Thank you to Harlequin Teen Australia for this book, it looks awesome.

Your heart misleads you. That’s what my friends and family say. But I love Noah. And he loves me. We met and fell in love in the sleepy farming community of Meadowview, while we rode our horses together through the grassy fields and in those moments in each other’s arms. It should be Rose & Noah forever, easy. But it won’t be. Because he’s Amish. And I’m not.

Pushing The Limits - Katie McGarry

Thank you again Harlequin Teen Australia for this Advanced Readers Copy in the mail!

So wrong for each other…and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

One Breath Away - Heather Gudenkauf

Thank you again to Harlequin Teen Australia for this book. I cant wait to read this, it looks amazing. Very similar to Jodi Picout books I’ve heard!

In the midst of a sudden spring snowstorm, an unknown man armed with a gun walks into an elementary school classroom. Outside the school, the town of Broken Branch watches and waits.

Officer Meg Barrett holds the responsibility for the town’s children in her hands. Will Thwaite, reluctantly entrusted with the care of his two grandchildren by the daughter who left home years earlier, stands by helplessly and wonders if he has failed his child again. Trapped in her classroom, Evelyn Oliver watches for an opportunity to rescue the children in her care. And thirteen-year-old Augie Baker, already struggling with the aftermath of a terrible accident that has has brought her to Broken Branch, will risk her own safety to protect her little brother.

As tension mounts with each passing minute, the hidden fears and grudges of the small town are revealed as the people of Broken Branch race to uncover the identity of the stranger who holds their children hostage.

Monday Mailbox #4

Good evening readers!! Welcome to Monday Mailbox, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week!

The host for June is Marie from Burton Book Review. Be sure to check her out!

Emma Hearts LA - Keris Stainton

I havent read the first book Jessie Loves LA yet, but from the reviews it doesnt seem like you have to to enjoy this book. It’s received amazing reviews, and after spending some time in LA recently myself, I am super keen to read this book and maybe get a little piece of that amazing feeling back that LA gives you! I think I am going to try and source the first book also. I might see if I can get it on Kindle. :)

Timepiece (Hourglass #2) - Myra McEntire

How awesome is the cover on this one? If you’ve seen the cover of Hourglass, I love that the two covers almost tell part of the story in itself. Really looking forward to getting into this one, I have a LOT of ARC’s to get through at the moment and so I may not be able to read this as soon as I would like unfortunately! I really need to be able to just clone myself. haha

The Highgate Vampire - Asa Bailey

Thank you very much to Hachette Children’s Books for a copy of this book! Interestingly enough this is the English version of this book, and it’s titled The Vampire of Highgate instead of the US version The Highgate Vampire. The English Cover is otherwise identical. Really looking forward to reading this - its my next read! :)

Adorkable - Sarra Manning (Audiobook version)

Jeane Smith is seventeen and has turned her self-styled dorkiness into an art form, a lifestyle choice and a profitable website and consultancy business. She writes a style column for a Japanese teen magazine and came number seven in The Guardian’s 30 People Under 30 Who Are Changing The World. And yet, in spite of the accolades, hundreds of Internet friendships and a cool boyfriend, she feels inexplicably lonely, a situation made infinitely worse when Michael Lee, the most mass-market, popular and predictably all-rounded boy at school tells Jeane of his suspicion that Jeane’s boyfriend is secretly seeing his girlfriend. Michael and Jeane have NOTHING in common - she is cool and individual; he is the golden boy in an Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. So why can’t she stop talking to him?

What I Didn’t Say - Keary Taylor

Getting drunk homecoming night your senior year is never a good idea, but Jake Hayes never expected it all to end with a car crash and a t-post embedded in his throat.

His biggest regret about it all? What he never said to Samantha Shay. He’s been in love with her for years and never had the guts to tell her. Now it’s too late. Because after that night, Jake will never be able to talk again.

Monday Mailbox #3

Good afternoon!! Welcome to Monday Mailbox #3, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week! This week is pretty epic cause I have spent the last 3 weeks in the USA. I didn’t buy MANY books there (they weigh too much!) but whilst I was gone I received some books from publishers, and as it’s my birthday on Wednesday I got some early presents also!

The host for June is Marie from Burton Book Review. Be sure to check her out!

The Masque of the Red Death, Storm and Will Greyson, Will Greyson have featured in previous Mailbox’s (I bought e-book versions previously), and so I won’t be re-featuring them. But I bought Masque of the Red Death and Will Greyson, Will Greyson from Barnes & Noble in NY!

Partials - Dan Wells

Thank you so much Harper Collins for this finished copy! It was nice to return from overseas with some packages on my doorstep! This is a book I’ve been looking forward to reading for a while! The fact that it’s set in Long Island New York means I am going to read this even sooner since I’ve just returned from NY and am obsessed with all things NY related right now. haha Looks great - review to come soon!

The Friendship Matchmaker Goes Undercover- Randa Abdel-Fattah

I hadn’t heard of this book prior to Scholastic Australia sending me a copy (thank you very much Scholastic!). But it looks like a really cute read, and quite a quick read too.. I think this is a sequel to The Friendship Matchmaker, which I haven’t read, but to be honest it doesn’t look as though you would need to read the first one to understand this! Review to come soon!!

Fated - Alyson Noel

Thank you Pan Macmillan Australia for a finished copy of Fated!! I will have a copy of this to give away to one of my fellow Australian readers shortly as I’ve got two copies of this at the moment!! I am very much looking forward to reading this book, it’s the first in the Soul Seekers series and I’ve heard some really good things about it! Definitely will be adding a review of this book shortly!

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments Book 5) - Cassandra Clare

Eeeee!!! I love this series. I have some SERIOUS catching up to do as I am only up to book 3!!! But maybe now with this release it might be the kick in the butt I needed to get reading on the other books in this series! One thing is for sure, and that is, they look amazing on my bookshelf!

The Glimpse - Claire Merle

This looks like a really good dystopian novel!!

In a near future, society is segregated according to whether people are genetically disposed to mental illness. 17-year-old Ana has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her DNA test. When the authorities find out, she faces banishment from her safe Community, a fate only thwarted by the fact that she has already been promised to Pure-boy Jasper Taurell.

Withering Tights - Louise Rennison

Picked this one up for $5 today! Bargain!

From Goodreads: Hilarious new series from Queen of Teen – laugh your tights off at the (VERY) amateur dramatic antics of Talullah and her bonkers mates. Boys, snogging and bad acting guaranteed!

This one isn’t a new release, it came out last July, but it looks like a fun read - something to break up the serious books!

Withering Tights - Louise Rennison

Also got this one for a bargain $5 today! This is a series I have been eyeing off for a while now, but I always get confused as to what book is first in the series. Anyways, I found it!

From Goodreads: In the zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic America where Benny Imura lives, every teenager must find a job by the time they turn fifteen or get their rations cut in half. Benny doesn’t want to apprentice as a zombie hunter with his boring older brother Tom, but he has no choice. He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash—but what he gets is a vocation that will teach him what it means to be human.

Fifty Shades Of Grey - E.L James

My best friend bought me this SERIES, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. DEFINITELY not a YA series!!! Lots and lots of hype about this series right now, and I’ve half finished the first book and can understand the hype. It’s very raunchy, and I wouldn’t recommend this series to those easily offended! That being said, if you’re open minded and not offended by sex, you’ll love this series! Not particularly well written but very indulgent.

Monday Mailbox #2

Good morning! Welcome to Monday Mailbox #2, where I can share the books I bought and received in the previous week!

The host for May is Martha from Reviews by Martha’s Bookshelf. Be sure to check her out!

This is my last Monday Mailbox before I get back to Australia from the United States on June 1st. I expect my June IMM to be huge!

Insurgent (Divergent #2) - Veronica Roth

OMG! I bought both the paperback copy as well as the audiobook version from Audible! I did this because the aim is to be able to read this on the 14 hour flight from Sydney to LA, and I am sure my eyes will not be wanting to “read” the whole way, so I can listen also and hopefully get through the whole thing in one sitting then! I’ve been dying to know what happens since I finished the last pages of Divergent last year!

Social Suicide (Deadly Cool #2) - Gemma Halliday

Deadly Cool was one of my surprise favourite books of 2011. It had this really cool mystery who-dun-it style vibe to it, and it’s such a unique quality in YA books currently. The covers are so stunning, but the quality of the story matches the cover too. This is a book I’ve been waiting for since I finished the first one, and I am hoping I might be able to read it in the next few weeks, fingers crossed!!

The Unraveling - Elizabeth Norris

Another audiobook from Audible. Seriously, it’s becoming an addiction! haha But I find the books so affordable, and I can get through them much faster (with thanks to the x2 button on iPad, I can make the slow narration go twice as fast!) and it’s helps create a different reading experience for the times when I am getting in a reading slump or just too fatigued to actually sit and read a book. It’s been a huge breakthrough for me!

Purity - Jackson Pearce

The best thing about the audiobook version of Purity is that it is read by Jackson Pearce herself!! If you can’t get enough of her YouTube videos, then this is certainly a great way for fans of hers to hear more of her! And anytime you have the experience to hear the author reading their own books, I think you should. To hear their own words, in the way they intended them to sound, I think that is pretty special. I am hoping to be able to listen to this during my travels!

Jessica Rules The Dark Side (Jessica #2) - Beth Fantaskey

I am still yet to read the first book (Jessica’s Guide To Dating on the Dark Side), but I really love the covers on these books, and both of them have received some pretty decent reviews as well. I happened to get this one fairly cheap and find it hard to pass up any sort of bargain at the best of times! lol

In My Mailbox #48

Hello everyone!! How’ve you all been? I am a bit under the weather today, but have had a really nice weekend none the less. I watched a work friend of mine get married yesterday, and it was a beautiful wedding. And then a whole group of my work friends and I went to dinner at this amazing restaurant. The food was amongst the nicest I’ve ever had!

On to IMM! As always In My Mailbox is a weekly meme bought to you by the lovely Kristi at The Story Siren. Small week for me. I am REALLY being tight right now as it’s only just over 2 weeks until my epic USA adventure begins! I need all the dollars I can for my trip!

The Probability Of Miracles - Wendy Wunder

So much about this book makes me smile. The cover is just so bright and there’s just enough to make you want to know more about it. The story itself sounds amazing.

Dry, sarcastic, sixteen-year-old Cam Cooper has spent the last seven years in and out hospitals. The last thing she wants to do in the short life she has left is move 1,500 miles away to Promise, Maine - a place known for the miraculous events that occur there. But it’s undeniable that strange things happen in Promise: everlasting sunsets; purple dandelions; flamingoes in the frigid Atlantic; an elusive boy named Asher; and finally, a mysterious envelope containing a list of things for Cam to do before she dies. As Cam checks each item off the list, she finally learns to believe - in love, in herself, and even in miracles.

The Immortal Rules (Blood Of Eden #1) - Julie Kagawa

I’ll be honest.. the cover doesn’t excite me at all. BUT I started reading this already and the book itself gets you immediately. It’s early days but it feels like a dystopian with vampires. It’s very intriguing. I have Julie’s other series The Iron Fey and heard SO much about it but am yet to read it. After this though I think I will read that series just because her writing is incredible! Review to come soon on this.

In My Mailbox #47

Good morning readers! Sorry for my absence in the last few days!! I’ve found since getting an iPad my time spent on my PC has diminished drastically. But I promise to get more organised and get online more often to post some updates!

On to IMM! As always In My Mailbox is a weekly meme bought to you by the lovely Kristi at The Story Siren. Kind of accidentally found I had a bit of a dead theme happening this week, which is a bit disturbing. lol Every book I have this week either has a theme of dying, zombies or purgatory. Crazy!

Revived - Cat Patrick

I love the Australian cover of this book!! It’s what made me look at it when I was at Dymocks the other night and ultimately what pushed me to buy it (after I read the blurb). After this post I am going to post a cover comparison of the Australian cover vs the US cover just because they are both SO different!

Bad Hair Day (Kate Grable #2) - Carrie Harris

I love this cover, it’s mysterious yet cute at the same time. I own the first book in this series, Bad Taste In Boys, but haven’t read it yet… I believe it’s a zombie series. I was stoked to have received this book as an ARC and I have about a while to read them both as this isn’t released until November this year. So I will definitely be reviewing both books before then. I can’t wait, they look like a dark, yet fun read!

Velveteen - Daniel Marks

Another ARC I received this week from Netgalley. This sounds dark and grisly, but all sorts of amazing, I am very excited to be reading this one!

Velveteen Monroe is dead. At 16, she was kidnapped and murdered by a madman named Bonesaw. But that’s not the problem.

The problem is she landed in purgatory. And while it’s not a fiery inferno, it’s certainly no heaven. It’s gray, ashen, and crumbling more and more by the day, and everyone has a job to do. Which doesn’t leave Velveteen much time to do anything about what’s really on her mind…. Bonesaw.

The Little Woods - McCormick Templeman

The cover on this is incredible right? The colours are amazing, I am in love with this! Another ARC from Netgalley, this sounds like a great book!

Are the woods behind St. Bede’s Academy really haunted, or does bad stuff just happen there? When Calista Wood, a new student, arrives midway through her junior year, St. Bede’s feels like a normal school . . . until she discovers that a girl had disappeared a couple of months earlier. Some kids think she ran away, others think she was murdered, but it’s only when Cally starts digging around that she finds the startling truth.
